Primary 3-6

At Farrer Primary School the Primary School team is currently comprised of two Year 3 classes, two Year 4 classes, two Year 5 classes and two Year 6 classes. Classroom teachers work as a team to plan and deliver the Australian Curriculum across their year group.

Our curriculum for Years 3 to Year 6 is based on the firm belief that intellectual and social development occurs through scaffolded problem-solving opportunities which take account of children's cultural backgrounds and life experiences.

The Year 6 students make up our school parliament and have many leadership opportunities throughout the school, including Green Team, Library Monitors and Hospitality Leaders. Other extra curricula activities that students in Year 5 and 6 might participate in include separate Year 5 and Year 6 Bands.

Each week the specialist team work with classes across the school. Sarah Aby (Japanese), Brett Maron (physical education), Aaron Flynn (science) and Michelle Duffie (English as an Additional Language / Dialect) plan for and implement these aspects of the Australian curriculum.

Sarah, Brett and Aaron also coordinate events such as Japanese fun day and Japanese competitions, various sporting gala days, clinics, carnivals and competitions as well as incursions and excursions adding fun, interest and valuing adding to the school's educational programs.

Michelle works to provide children with English as an Additional Language / Dialect with further, explicit teaching and learning experiences to build their English proficiency. Michelle will also be working across the school covering staff absences.

Teaching teams share term overviews in week 2 each term via the Seesaw online journal.
