Boundary fence consultation

Boundary fence at Farrer Primary School

During Semester 2 2023, the Education Directorate ran a six-week community consultation on a boundary fence design for Farrer Primary School.

The school and local community were invited to have their say on the fence line, the location of access gates and after-hours access arrangements.

Feedback received through the consultation has shaped the final design. You can read the full consultation report at the bottom of this page.

We acknowledge that there are mixed views on the need for a fence. The Education Directorate takes its duty of care for students during school hours seriously as well as the wellbeing of its staff.

A boundary fence will help reduce safety risks, student abscondments and the risk of unknown people coming onto school grounds without permission.

Out of hours access arrangements

ACT public schools are shared community assets, and we remain committed to providing access to school grounds outside of school hours.

Out of hours access will be provided to the Farrer community.

The Directorate, with the school will identify the gate location that will have timed access. This is a new addition the Education Directorate is implementing across all new boundary fence installations at our ACT public schools. Timed gates help support easy community access.

Boundary fence construction

The boundary fence will be constructed in term 3. It will be black in colour and 2.1 metres high. This process takes approximately eight weeks. Temporary fencing will be put up throughout the process for the safety of the school community. Families and community will be provided with an update ahead of works commencing.
