Farrer Parents and Community (P&C)
The is the voice of parents and the community on how the school is perfoming in the educational and social development of our children.
The P&C is about contributing to making Farrer Primary a great school for our children, our teachers and staff and our parents. We do this by promoting discussion, providing services and raising funds.
To promote discussion, we meet about once a month (usually 7.30pm on a nominated Monday) and hear reports from the School Board and Principal, and raise issues of concern or interest to parents. We tackle subjects varying from curriculum development, school policies and the content of the school website through to voluntary contributions, the state of the school oval, and parking and safety concerns at school finishing times. We also have presentations related to topics of interest from teaching staff and from time to time, invited guests. So that this meeting can concentrate on issues, the general running of the P&C is managed separately by an Administrative Committee (elected at the AGM in February).
Traditionally, we have provided school banking, canteen and uniform shop services.
Our fund raising activities are directed at a number of purposes
- firstly, and most importantly, each year we pledge to provide the school with $10,000 to be used to specifically support key learning areas;
- secondly, we cover the administrative expenses of the P&C, council affiliation, insurance (ie P&C canteen equipment and uniform stock, bank fees, etc);
- thirdly, we provide gifts to departing staff and hold a number of welcome and thankyou functions each year; and finally
- we undertake major projects.
In the past, major project undertakings by the P&C have included the Environment Centre, refurbishment of the canteen, senior playground redevelopment and smartboard purchases for classrooms.
The P&C is first and foremost about gathering and acting on opinion. Our meetings are your chance to have your say in how your child (or children) is educated and how a large budget is managed. We would like to know your opinions and encourage your involvement.
