Farrer Primary School

About our Learning Programs

Farrer School and community welcomes you. Our school has an excellent record of achievement and functions in a traditional setting with strong parent support.

Our vision for the school is: “Educational success in a socially and environmentally sustainable school”.

Organisation and Scope of our Curriculum
Our core business at Farrer is to develop socially and environmentally literate students. Our learning programs recognise the significance of Literacy* and Numeracy* in the development of each child’s learning. We believe it is important to provide effective whole-school strategies that inform each child’s teacher, and parents, of the abilities and progress of the individual.

The school uses the Multiliteracy Framework to inform Literacy teaching methodology along with the First Steps Literacy Continua and Count Me in Too Numeracy practices. Our curriculum encompasses learning in the broad areas of:

  • Literacy *
  • Numeracy *
  • Environments and Technologies
  • Heritage
  • Civics and Citizenship
  • Physical Education and Sport
  • Japanese

Key conceptual understandings which we call Big Understandings underpin learning in these areas. Whilst students are grouped in accordance to age at FPS learning is developed through three main stages.

Stage 1: Students in the early primary years (Kindergarten, Years 1 and 2
Stage 2: Students in the middle primary years (Years 3 and 4)
Stage 3: Students in the upper primary years (Years 5 and 6)

Our people: Our current enrolment is 300 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Twenty five teaching and support staff work to direct and assist the learning of our students.

I look forward to speaking with you about our successful community school at a time that best suits your needs.
