Farrer Primary School

How it works: Helping individual students to focus on specific goals.

How it Works aims to better inform parents of some of our positive practices and interventions at Farrer Primary.

The school uses a range of strategies to assist students to focus on specific learning or behavioural goals. One such strategy is to prepare a plan with the student to try to target the student’s mind on the specific goals of challenges. The plan usually involves the student’s participation and more often than not, a parent will also be involved in affirming the goals of the plan.

A tick-box section of the plan can be completed with the child’s teacher with the aim of increasing the frequency of the successful habits and reducing the frequency of any unsuccessful habits. This process is often quite successful in helping students to make supported changes to their habits so that they are more successful.

Whilst it is not practicable, nor necessary, to have an individual plan for each student, we usually have a few students working with a plan at any one time. Sometimes these plans are for very specific and simple challenges.
